MSCBA Breaks Ground on Huntington Avenue June 01, 2010
The MSCBA has broken ground at the building site on Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA for the New Residence Hall at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Led by the team of Suffolk Construction and ADD, Inc, the site work contractor has begun to drive the building piles, pre-augering the hole for the steel H piles and vibrating the piles in place to avoid excessive vibration and noise.
The 21 story high-rise building will provide on-campus housing for 493 students. The three lower floors contain common spaces, including a smaller commercial/cafe space incorporated in the Lobby area of the ground floor. A separate triangular lobby provides isolated access to the second floor Health Center, to be operated by Harvard Health. The third floor houses the common living room, fitness room, laundry room, game room and the Resident Director's apartment. The main part of the building is comprised of 17 residential floors (29 beds per floor) in a semi-suite arrangement with private baths per paired rooms. The design, per floor, has a mix of room types: singles, doubles, and triples.
